MckLinky Blog Hop for July 14, 2009 - 3 Things You Didn't Know About Me

Three things you (probably) didn't know about me:

One:

I'm a DAR.  I just learned (or maybe I just finally paid attention and heard) this 4th of July that I'm a Daughter of the American Revolution.  I don't have the paperwork to prove it, and I need to talk with my dad and grandpap to figure out the relationship,  but my great great great ... great great someone-or-other and his brother fought in the Revolutionary War.  Kinda crazy, huh?

Two:

I am closer in age to my MOTHER than to my youngest sibling.

Three:

For as terrible as I am about sending birthday cards, anytime I see someone's "birthdate time" on a digital clock, I say a little prayer for that person.

well, hello cousin! i'm also DAR...and don't have the papers, haha!

i'm a direct descendant of francis cooke, who came over on the mayflower, and one of my great, greats (just like you) fought with washington in the revolutionary war. there's apparently some land in virginia that was given to my family after the war.

that's nice about the birthday prayer... i like that. :)

how's the baby? how are you? how are the big brothers and dad?

Jenn, my dad randomly texted actually, "remember you're a DAR." Which I didn't know -- though I can guess I was somewhere around 6th grade when I was told, sometime around the "vacation" from hell* to the graveyards of Tennessee. In other words he'd known.

(* This was a "family reunion" trip of sorts. Only thing was that it was with family we didn't know at all, distant cousins, and most of the trip was spent driving from one cemetery to another where my dad did gravestone rubbings. Not how a 12-yr-old cares to spend her vacation. I got to know Caddie Woodlawn better than my own family tree that week with all the reading I did in the car.)

Ginger, that's so cool! I'm late to the "This is your Family" show. It's only been in the past few years that I've really gained a true interest in any history, though there was a spurt in 8th grade when I learned about my family's involvement in the Civil War. (Tenn. - Union) The Patriot part of my family also had land in VA, in Augusta County. Maybe your peeps and mine hung out. ;)
